On March 2nd, Ecuador's Tungurahua Volcano erupted, sending ash and lava up to 2.5 miles into the air. Volcanologists noticed increased activity starting on February 27th, eventually culminating in a fiery show a few days later. This particular volcano has been active since 1999, and scientists expect there to be a few more days of activity.
Local authorities have issued several alerts for locals and tourists, which is currently a yellow level, but the activity can be seen from miles around the site. With the acitvity expected to last for a while (there's even a thought that a larger blast could occur), this is a great opportunity for travelers in the area in take in a live eruption—surely that has made its way to someone's bucket list.
