In a new study,"Hotwire has identified the most tweeted travel and leisure
emojis in every state — and there"s an entertaining infographic to go
along with it.
The motivation for the study was the upcoming holiday travel
season and all the negativity that usually surrounds it.
By looking at what
people are tweeting, Hotwire hoped to understand what kinds of things they
were happy about. The study examined 581,000 tweets sent between October 25 and
November 4 of this year, along with their geolocations.
It then identified the
most commonly used emojis related to travel and leisure within those
tweets.
Hotwire"s new study found that people in Arizona tweeted about cacti,
while New Jerseyans were fixated on apples.
(Infographic: Hotwire)Some of the
findings are what you"d expect:California"s most popular emoji is a sun,
Oregon"s is an umbrella, Louisiana"s is a jazz horn, and Indiana"s is a
basketball.Related:"10 Free Travel Apps Even Non-Tech Road Warriors Will

during the two weeks of the study: New Mexico revelers seem to have been going
to a lot of karaoke bars; Maine residents were eating a ton of donuts; and
people in Texas and Delaware were watching their money fly away.
Folks in
other states seem to have been drinking heavily: Connecticut used the cocktail
emoji, Vermont a glass of beer, and Wisconsin a glass of
wine.Related:"Finally! Google Offline Maps Are HereFloridian tweeters were the
most likely to be jetting off somewhere, while Kansans loved America more than
anyone else.
Interestingly, Tennesseans were the most avid emoji users of all,
averaging 2.08 per tweet — but their most popularly tweeted icon was an
ear of corn…and frankly, we"re not sure what to make of that."What
