Environment Minister Albert Jacob said
safety for whales and humans will be paramount on the tours, and that there
will be strict guidelines for interacting with the humpbacks.
He said only one
group of 10 at a time will be allowed within 300 meters of the whales. This
will be a trial run and will be modeled after a similar program with whale
sharks at Ningaloo Marine Park.
The only other parts of the world where
swimming with humpback whales is known to be offered are Tonga, Mexico, and as
of last year, Queensland, Australia.
