Ian and Margie during their first meeting in Florida.
(Photo: Margie Morales)Who: Ian Davies, Margie Morales

Where we
met: Ft.
Lauderdale, FloridaWhen: 2006

Relationship status: Married(As told by
Margie)It all started with a simple inquiry from Ian, who was in Queensland,
Australia and looking for a HomeExchange in Florida.
He sent off emails to approximately 56 HomeExchanges — I was the
only one who responded.
So, we made the agreement, and we both planned for his trip to the U.
S.
which was still six months away.

At the time, his father was very ill and I was taking care of my mother
with Alzheimer’s, so we started talking about our shared experiences.
For six months we sent weekly emails back and forth.
I really looked forward to our correspondence, and by the time his trip
arrived, we had really gotten to know each other.

Lauderdale, and I agreed to pick him up at the airport.
Every HomeExchange works a little differently  — some involve two
people switching homes, but in this case, Ian and I arranged for him to stay
with me and I would show him around.
From the moment I saw him fumbling with a luggage cart, I felt like I knew him
already.
Even though he had just gotten off of a very long flight, I invited him to
hang out with a few of my friends at a local restaurant.
We had a great night and my friends really liked him.
For the next two weeks we drove around and everywhere we went was party.
He met most of my friends, and they all loved him.
In fact, several friends took me aside and asked if I was interested in him.
Every time I replied, "This is HomeExchange.
com, not Match.
com!" The couple on a trip to New Zealand.
(Photo: Margie Morales)On his last night, we went to my brother’s
condo and had dinner with his wife, daughter and son-in-law.
We laughed so much, and after dinner, Ian and I went to a nearby bar to have
a nightcap.
For the first time, it was just the two us, and as we here talking, I turned
my head and he kissed me.
It was like lightning struck my heart.
I actually looked down to see if there was smoke coming out of my
feet— it was that electric! The next morning, Ian was supposed to fly to
Colorado for a skiing trip.
He had to leave at 6 a.
m.
, but and at 3 a.
m.
he suggested a new plan.
He wanted to stay with me for another month, and at the end of 30 days he
would either leave alone, or with me.
Making a toast after their engagement in Rome.
(Photo: Margie Morales)30 days later we went to Colorado, and from there we
went back to Australia.
We haven’t spent a night apart since, and we got married last October.
Related: They Met at a Pub While Crisscrossing AustraliaOne of the
best parts about marrying Ian is the fact that I have a whole new family.
He has two daughters and nine grandchildren and I love them all.
Now when I walk into a house, the grandkids run up and hug me — I feel
so lucky.
I was 59 when I met Ian and he was 60.
I had been widowed for 20 years and would say a prayer to the universe that
something good would come into my life.
After I met Ian I just felt so happy.
My friends and family were thrilled and all said that I deserved happiness,
and I must say, I am in in 7th Heaven.
Ian and I love to travel and we have HomeExchanges coming up in Phoenix and
Tahoe.
My advice to other people out there is to let it go.
Enjoy your life, and everything will work out in the end.
