It's Nov. 1, 1979, and
Senator Howard Baker is on the Presidential campaign, sitting on a tarmac
in Nebraska. It's an ordinary day for Sen. Baker, and, as seen in this
photo, an ordinary interior for 1979.  Design in
the 1970s, after all, was all about the spectacle: purples and
paisleys and huge, blobby Marimekko-type florals. And now there's
photographic evidence that the public's taste for burnt orange and
all-encompassing paisley did indeed bleed into the travel sector. Alas,
tis not the case for airplanes in 2015.  To soften the blow, here's
another shot from that same day:
